Our second open letter to David Cameron & John Penrose

Mr Penrose wrote this in a letter to the Guardian about those opposed to the introduction of single voter registration. His comment perfectly summarises the conclusion that people will reach about his own position on First Past the Post.

Make Votes Matter have sent a second letter to David Cameron and John Penrose, the Minister responsible for electoral policy, signed by over 8,683 supporters of Proportional Representation. This followed his second failure to respond substantively to the petition for Proportional Representation signed by 477,000 people in 2015.

We're not going to allow him to ignore us. First Past the Post is suppressing democracy in the UK. When government fails to take action to remove suppression, it becomes a participant in that suppression - just as governments of the last two centuries participated in suppression when they failed to bring in votes for women.

Signatories included members of the Conservative Party, Green Party, Labour Party, Liberal Democrats, Plaid Cymru, Sinn Féin, Scottish National Party, Social Democratic and Labour Party, UK Independence Party, the Women's Equality Party and voters of no party political affiliation.
