Make Votes Matter is extremely excited to announce the 2018 Democracy Awards, hosted by Tommy Sheppard MP. The awards will be presented by impressionist and comedian Rory Bremner, and will showcase the commitment and dedication shown by activists and politicians who are campaigning for Proportional Representation in the House of Commons and for real democracy.
The awards will conclude an afternoon of action, in which hundreds of activists will travel across the UK to join the People’s Lobby for PR and tell their MPs how passionate they are about changing our antiquated voting system.
The awards reception will be held in the Attlee Suite in Portcullis House, from 16:45 to 18:15 on Tuesday the 11th of December. Food and drink will be provided.
We will be honouring committed activists and politicians with the following awards:
Group Campaigning Award
Recognising a volunteer-run campaign group that has worked either nationally or locally to make the UK more democratic by introducing PR.
Heald Centenary Award
For the individual activists who have made the greatest contribution to make every vote count equally in the centenary year of the Representation of the People Act.
Keir Hardy Award
For the Labour politicians who have done the most to campaign for a proportional voting system in the UK
Parliamentary Champion Award
For other politicians who have done the most to campaign for a proportional voting system in the UK (not including Labour).
Entrance is via Portcullis House visitors’ entrance, Bridge Street, London SW1A 2LW. As it is the day of the Brexit vote, please allow plenty of time to get through security - lately queues have taken over half an hour and they could be longer on this busy day.
Attendance is by invitation only. Invites will be extended to those attending the People’s Lobby for PR on a first come first serve basis.
