Organised by brilliant independent volunteers, the event will features cross-party politicians and non-party campaigners for PR:
- Natalie Bennett, former Green Party Leader
- Chris Davies, former Liberal Democrat MP and MEP
- Darren Hughes, Electoral Reform Society
- Klina Jordan, Make Votes Matter
- Mary Southcott, Labour Campaign for Electoral Reform
- Wendy Stephen, Alliance4PR
Taking place to commemorate the Peterloo massacre, it's already picked up some press coverage and will happen in Albert Square, outside Manchester Town Hall, from 12.30-2pm. This will be a fun event with the option to dress up and sing along with some reform songs!
The event will make the link between those who were campaigning for democracy at the Peterloo Massacre almost 200 years ago and the continued movement for universal suffrage: for votes that have equal value. This event will of course be peaceful and family friendly!
Attendees are invited to dress as suffragettes for a photo action, and to join us in singing reform songs - songsheets will be provided! Participation is of course optional but will be fun :)
At the end we will walk a few minutes down the road, to see the blue plaque commemorating the Peterloo Massacre, then head to the pub for a drink and to discuss setting up a local Make Votes Matter group.
