Democracy in Wales: the Path to Proportional Representation

  • Tŷ Hywel, Pierhead St, National Assembly For Wales, Cardiff CF99 1NA (map)

We warmly invite you to Democracy in Wales: the path to Proportional Representation in the Welsh Assembly from 5:30 - 8:00pm on Wednesday 14th December.

Elections to the National Assembly for Wales take place under a nominally "proportional" electoral system which results in election outcomes that can be even less proportional than those conducted under First Past the Post.

Meanwhile, Welsh issues that are decided by the Westminster Government are subject to the same, huge disproportionality between votes and seats that impacts upon the rest of the UK.

A cross-party discussion, drawing on newly unveiled research into present disproportionality and possible solutions, will be followed by a festive reception with mulled wine and minced pies.

Spaces are very limited so please RSVP now and join us for a fully cross-party line up of speakers, kindly hosted by Sian Gwenllian AM (Plaid Cymru).

Our line-up of speakers includes:

Roger Scully, Professor of Political Science, Wales Governance Centre, Cardiff University
Hywel Williams MP, Westminster Parliamentary Leader, Plaid Cymru
Shavanah Taj, Wales Secretary, PCS Union
David Melding AM, Conservative Party
Jac Larner, Academic
Gwynoro Jones, Former MP, Liberal Democrat
Caroline Jones AM, UKIP
Alice Hooker-Stroud, Leader, Green Party of Wales
